On June 7th, Glass for Europe submitted its contribution to the public consultation on the update of the list of EU industrial products (PRODCOM list).
In its response, the European association of flat glass manufacturers and transformers highlighted the difficulties and problems generated using official statistical data, based on NACE 4 and PRODCOM 8 classifications. Because of an improper classification of activities, the statistics do not reflect the reality of the flat glass sector. When data are used by authorities and stakeholders, these inaccuracies could have important consequences.
Glass for Europe asked to check and correct the inaccuracies to ensure that the installations covered by a specific code correspond precisely to the activities undertaken. This is particularly true for products such as the coated glass. Coated glass shall be classified under NACE 2312 instead of the current classification under NACE 2311 as it corresponds to flat glass transformation activities. Products definitions could be as well reviewed to better differentiate the different types and functionalities of coated glass products.
