The High-Level Group on energy-intensive industries aims to build a forum to discuss issues and challenges of the energy-intensive industries and to provide advice and expertise to the European Commission. The group is also a source of information for the European Council on issues relevant for the industry. The last meeting of the High-Level Group took place on February 28th and was opened by the Commissioner for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, Elzbieta BieÅ„kowska. In her speech, she underlined the importance of energy-intensive industries for the European economy and the challenges that they all face in making the transition to a low-carbon and circular economy by 2050, while remaining globally competitive. The ensuing discussion was centred around the challenges for energy-intensive industries to decarbonize their manufacturing activities and the possible EU policy actions in support of these industrial efforts. Bertrand Cazes’ input in this discussion and the follow-up is discussed and agreed with colleagues of Glass Alliance Europe.
