Energy Intensive Industries call for urgent actions to limit energy prices

Today, Glass Alliance Europe, and other associations representing European energy intensive industries, called on the European Commission’s President Ursula von der Leyen and Mr Jozef Síkela, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic as Chair of the Energy Council, to urgently introduce EU-wide measures aimed at limiting the price on natural gas.

Flat glass production relies on natural gas deliveries. The concomitant impact of soaring energy costs and reduced demand from the construction sector could considerably weaken EU flat glass production in the face of extra-European competition. Today’s exceptional circumstances demand decisive and urgent actions.

Flat glass is essential to make buildings more energy efficient and produce solar energy. Safeguarding the competitiveness of the European flat glass industry is key to ensure the transition of the EU and support its energy independence.
