Glass for Europe contributes to a catalogue listing solutions for energy security

May 7, 2026

In support of the European Commission’s communication AccelerateEU, Glass for Europe has contributing to a catalogue presenting cross-sectoral, readily deployable energy efficiency technologies and solutions that can strengthen energy security, protect citizens from energy price spikes and enhance long-term resilience of the EU.

As part of its proposed measures to provide immediate and medium-term relief in the context of the ongoing energy crisis, the European Commission has explicitly recommended the introduction of targeted fiscal incentives and financial support mechanisms to accelerate the uptake of easy-to-install, clean, and energy-efficient technologies. High-performance windows are among those singled out by name in the Commission’s communication.

By naming high-performance windows as a priority technology, the Commission acknowledges that building fabric upgrades are not merely a long-term decarbonisation strategy, they are an immediate tool for reducing dependence on imported energy and protecting households from price shocks. Glass for Europe has contributed alongside a broad industrial ecosystem, to a catalogue listing technologies and solutions to deliver concrete energy savings and system efficiency gains.

Glass plays a central role in achieving these objectives. High-performance glazing significantly reduces heat loss during winter but also limit excessive solar heat gains in summer, helping maintain comfortable indoor temperatures year-round and provide long-term decrease of energy bills.
