Glass for Europe is glad to announce a new partnership with RE-Source Platform. RE-Source advocates for long-term renewable energy contracts (i.e., Power Purchase Agreements) and aims at creating links between Renewable Energy Producers and Corporate Buyers.
Flat glass making is an energy intensive process and the flat glass industry is exploring different disruptive routes to produce more efficiently and reduce its CO2 emissions. Indeed, increasing the share of renewable electricity is among the way to go. During the last years, several flat glass installations have signed Power Purchase Agreements in different European countries. This type of long-term agreement, which ensures a fixed price for electricity, could help float glass plants to be less dependent from volatile energy markets.
On October 7, Glass for Europe visited the RE-Source 2022 conference in Amsterdam. The event is the largest annual gathering in Europe of renewable energy buyers and suppliers. During the event, it stood out that Power Purchase Agreements are becoming more valuable in the current situation as they ensure stability in period of crisis. In the future, similar agreement schemes could be developed to supply renewable fuels such as green hydrogen.
