On 7 February, more than 40 participants representing national partners and members of Glass for Europe participated in the internal workshop “Lifecycle carbon calculation tool”.
In 2022, Glass for Europe run calculations on carbon savings and carbon payback times of double and triple glazed windows in the residential sector and included the results in an informative paper released in October: Calculations of embodied and operational carbon of double and triple glazed windows. Since the paper analysed the findings at EU level, Glass for Europe developed a digital tool which presents the assessment of both embodied and operational carbon at country level and in 3 different EU climates.
During the workshop, Justin Loup, Technical Regulations and Project Advisor at Glass for Europe, presented the potential and the limits of the calculation tool he developed and how to use it. Thanks to the contributions from the participants, the discussion that followed allowed to collect numerous inputs which could be implemented in the final release of the digital tool. The tool is now available for Glass for Europe’s members and national partners.
