As you will read in this newsletter, during the last months, Glass for Europe has actively engaged with many actors of the flat glass ecosystem. This industry engagement is to be prolonged in the coming months alongside intense policy outreach efforts. As we navigate an era of rapidly evolving environmental, regulatory and market concerns, we must join forces to address the pressing issues at hands.

First and foremost, the decarbonisation of flat glass manufacturing, which remains a big challenge and a paramount objective for the sector. Secondly, the urgency to increase recycling to minimize waste and further reduce CO2 emissions. Collaborative efforts are needed to enhance recycling infrastructure, streamline collection and sorting systems, and develop advanced recycling technologies.

One last key area requiring an increased collaboration is the renovation of buildings. The construction sector is a significant consumer of flat glass, and by revitalizing existing buildings, we can drive demand, stimulate economic growth, and improve energy efficiency on a large scale. Collaboration between flat glass manufacturers and transformers, but also policymakers and the whole construction industry, is essential to develop sustainable building renovation programs, financial incentives, and regulatory frameworks that encourage the use of energy-efficient flat glass products.

Glass for Europe is ready to become the centre of a cohesive flat glass ecosystem. By forging strong partnerships and expanding Glass for Europe’s network, we can overcome the challenges ahead. Decarbonisation, increased recycling efforts, and boosting building renovation are crucial objectives that require collective action and a shared vision.
