Today, Glass for Europe joined the CLEPA delegation at the 77th session of the UN Working Party on Passive Safety (GRSP) in Geneva to contribute to discussions on headform testing on vehicles under UN Regulation 127.
Our goal was to provide technical insights into the specific material characteristics of automotive glass so as to help policymakers shape effective and feasible safety requirements.
Enhancing pedestrian protection globally is crucial, and regulatory requirements should account for the properties of the various vehicle parts at stake, including glass ones. To ensure vehicle manufacturers can consistently meet safety requirements, the statistical nature of glass strength and behaviour should be correctly understood.
That is why informing on windscreen breakage behaviour, safety glazing standards, and glass regulation is key to ensuring future rules are fit for purpose.
Glass for Europe remains available to contracting parties and any other stakeholders interested in flat glass and its properties. If you have any questions on this topic, please contact our colleague Justin Loup, Technical Regulations and Product Policy Manager.
