Measuring the application of circular approaches in the construction industry ecosystem

On 12 October 2022, Glass for Europe took part in a workshop on measuring the application of circular approaches in the construction ecosystem. A study on this topic is currently being conducted by Deloitte on behalf of the European Commission, as an output of the 2020 action plan to promote circularity principles in construction.

The European Commission has found a pressing need for better data from the construction sector beyond national statistics. National waste figures exist but do not sufficiently account of the status of circular economy approaches in construction. The present study is therefore intended to contribute to a clearer picture on what is happening on the ground. It is looking for data and information at company level on what a company is able to report, what it is willing to report, and on what can motivate it to report. Deloitte is working on the development of indicators on circularity that construction companies are capable and willing to report against.

The study is expected to be completed in July 2023. Its results will be used to future policy making.
